Emma, Dan and the kids!

So, with all the excitement of our daughter Caitlin’s arrival to this world, I was a little distracted and didn’t really get time to write about a lovely shoot I had with a work friend of mine, Dan and his family. Dan contacted me regarding some nice, simple family shots to capture the family after the birth of their son, Thomas. I was happy to oblige of course and we arranged to meet at Dan’s house one weekend. The day arrived and I drove over on a lovely, sunny day and was greeted by Dan, his wife Emma and their lovely daughter Bella. We had a chat, got set up with a classic black background and did a few test shots to adjust light. Then then hard we got down to business.

Now, with a three year old who was totally full of energy and was delightfully showing off and in her own little world and a 5 month old who was happy as Larry to sit there or fall asleep, it was going to be tough to get the shots Dan and Emma wanted. Some lovely formal portraits and maybe a few captured candids of the kids….the candids weren’t a problem. But as anyone will know who has children of similar age or who has had them, getting them to sit there or do what you like was always going to be a challenge! So, with the promise of chocolate and a bit of dressing up, we got cracking…..taking frequent breaks for Bella to show us her impressive jumping about and pretend instrument playing! She was a delight, if hard work as a photographer, but then to be honest, as I have shot my fair share of kids, she was a positive delight compared to some! I couldn’t stop laughing and Mom and Dad were superbly patient. But it was worth it I think as with the chocolate being served frequently and the dressing up happening a little quicker than scheduled, we managed to get some really lovely shots, both formal family shots and some cracking candids of the kids. Dan and Emma were very pleased with the outcome and have been very complimentary, of which I am very appreciative and flattered. But of course, I can’t do my job unless I have good models and I hope that you see from the images that I certainly had that! Once I got the shots I felt Dan and Emma wanted, I packed up and said my goodbyes, but Dan sent me on my way with a lovely bottle of wine and a little something for our, as of then, unborn Caitlin, which was really very thoughtful and lovely of them. So thank you guys, that was really appreciated! Really glad you liked your photos! Here’s a taster of a few from that shoot….hope you like them!

Thank you guys for a lovely shoot….glad I could be part of your memories. It was an honour and a pleasure!
