EPIC wedding at alternative wedding venue Devonshire Terrace!
This one was a special one for me. A really special one. I hadn’t shot a wedding at a venue like this before. Devonshire Terrace is a place like no other really. It has an extensive history fundamental to London and the wealth of the country. Originally a complex of warehouses for silk, textiles and other goods owned by the East India Company, its changed hands many times over the years. You can read the history of the place here. It’s fascinating. Devonshire Terrace is an incredible place really. A real alternative wedding venue. Now housing a few eateries and bars, the massive open space, the miles high glass ceiling giving a view of the Gherkin that has to be seen to be believed, the bare brick walls that go up what seem like miles….it’s a stupendous space. Very chic, very alternative wedding venue, very “cool”. And I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot the wedding of Sarah and Myles at Devonshire Terrace and I couldn’t have been more grateful to give a vibe of alternative documentary wedding photography to lend itself to them and their venue.
A combination of the alternative wedding venue and two of the nicest, chilled out, fun people you are likely to meet meant that I was seriously looking forward to this one. Sarah and Myles kept it simple. The money was being spent on all the important things to them…..flowers and how the place looked, the venue, the photography (sic), the live band……all the other things were superfluous. They wanted their family there (Myles is Irish), their friends and just to have a good time. No make up artist, no hair stylist…..it was all kept to a minimum and pared back, but absolutely classy, smart and absolutely perfect for the two of them. And bringing this all together was a wonderful crowd…..Irish, up for the “craic”, close friends of the bride, it had it all. This one couldn’t go wrong really…..
And boy it didn’t! What a day! WHAT a day! Sarah looked amazing in a quite unconventional wedding dress that was absolutely beautiful and totally her. I hadn’t seen anything like it. I LOVED it. Myles was classically dressed, simple, clean, smart. This was about spending time with friends and family, having the best party ever and getting married to the person they so clearly and deeply loved. The day started chilled in the morning at the Andaz hotel round the corner for the bridal prep…..what a fantastic place that is! Spending time with Sarah and her friends was a delight! Made to feel welcome and just get on with my job, I was in stitches most of the time! The ceremony itself had laughter, tears, outpourings of all sorts of emotions and just full of love. And the evening? Oh my word!!! Gotta give it to the Irish, they certainly know how to party! And WHAT a band! Extra special shout out to the band for the evening….The Epics. And blimey Charlie, did they live up their name! I have seen some cracking live bands in my time at weddings, but these guys blew the roof off! They were absolutely amazing! It was more like a gig than a party band, honestly! If you ever get a chance to see them, or want a wedding band that are good value, travel around the country and will absolutely blow your socks off, then these guys are it. I mean it. Absolutely awesome.
Am I gushing a little? Maybe…..but check the photos…..you can see why. Congrats to them both……genuinely, the pleasure was all mine! What a wedding!!! Sarah and Myles….you absolutely ROCKED it! What a wedding! Thank you for letting me be part of it!
